Limited Capacity filling up

Have you ever felt overwhelmed when noticing mechanical or grammatical errors in students’ writing? Do you ever think that targeted mechanics and grammar lessons might make a huge difference in students’ writing but don’t know how to start or where to find the time? Then mini lessons might be the solution for you!
Objectives:
  • Teachers identify an opportunity for targeted language instruction in their existing curriculum (based on a current struggle around writing).
  • Teachers will be able to develop a mini lesson to strategically teach a language skill in a content-specific lesson to enhance English language development.
Teachers will leave with a template to plan future mini lessons so they can strategically support language needs of students designated as English learners.

Applicability:
Grades 4-12
Particularly applicable to ELA, history, & science teachers
Please bring a student writing sample (hard copy or digital for your own analysis).

TCRP Indicators:
